Welcome To The Web Site Of
Thorpe Kite Flyers
Here you will find out about the club, the members, the places we fly and the festivals and other activities we intend to do over the next year or so. We also have a links page for all those people we have met or spoken to in the course of our roving around this part of the world, and to point you in the direction of other clubs in the area. Also, we have a gallery of things we have done recently, so go have a peek.
Thorpe Kite Flyers, based at Thorpe St. Andrew, Norwich, was founded on 9th September 1990 by a group of friends who had been flying kites informally on Thorpe Recreation ground since the early '80s; indeed, some of our members have been flying kites for over 50 years. There are about 40 members and we cover most aspects of kite flying except power. We make many of the kites and equipment ourselves, mainly during the winter months, and fly our kites all year round.
Besides normal Club flying days, Thorpe Kite Flyers are available to give demonstrations and displays at fetes and festivals. Our insurance policy provides cover for up to £5m at public events subject to certain conditions; and we carry out risk assessment.
We can do one or more of the following:
Show a wide range of kite types & colours in a static display, many of which we have made ourselves
Fly a wide range of kites including Single Line, Fighter, Dual and Four Line Stunt Kites.
Fly Dual and Four Line kites to music in an arena.
Parachute Teddy Bears or drop sweets for children and/or adults
Run a kite workshop.
We make reasonable charges to help towards our insurance and travel costs where necessary. If you are interested please contact the Secretary at secretary@thorpekiteflyers.org.uk for more information.
